Parkside volleyball took a tough Saginaw Valley State squad to five sets on Sunday afternoon at De Simone Gymnasium, but the Cardinals were able to escape with a 3-2 win over the Rangers on Halloween.

Set 1: The Rangers got out to a good start winning the first set, using a 6-0 run to take an 8-5 lead early on and erasing a Cardinals lead with an 8-1 lead later in the set. SVSU got it to 24-23, but a junior
Reese Rossnagel kill gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the match.

Set 2: SVSU had control of the second set for much of the way, but Parkside clawed its way back in towards the end, using a brief 3-0 run get within 24-21, but the Cardinals got the kill they needed to tie the match at 1-1.

Set 3: The Cardinals led for the entire third set, pulling out to a 10-4 advantage and didn't look back en route to the 25-15 win to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Set 4: Parkside responded in the fourth set, opening up a 9-3 lead. Later in the set, SVSU rallied off a 6-0 run to make it 21-20 and later tied it at 24-24. Back-to-back SVSU attack errors ended the set and tied the match at 2-2.

Set 5: The difference in the fifth was a 5-0 run by the Cardinals to give them an 11-8 lead that Parkside couldn't overcome. A late kill by senior
Rachel Hedman made it 13-11 SVSU, but the visiting squad scored the final two to beat the Rangers.

Rossnagel led the way with 11 kills while Neal had 10 and junior
Lexi Packard had nine. Freshman
Lindsay Krznarich had a team-high 6.0 blocks while junior
Alysha Brickl led the way with 24 assists and sophomore
Maddy Dokken had a team-high 29 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers have three straight home matches to end the regular season, as the entire conference fights for positioning in the GLIAC Tournament. Parkside welcomes in Davenport on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. to kickoff the weekend.
