Game Recap: Softball |

Rangers Split at Maryville, Hausl Earns Win

The Parkside softball team split their two-game series against Marvyille on Friday, and moved to 6-2 on the year. The Rangers dropped game one in extra innings, and responded with a 5-2 win after a five-run second inning.

GAME 1: Maryville 4, Parkside 3
Senior Alyssa McClelland has started the year on fire from the rubber, and she had the ball in game one for the Rangers. Maryville struck first and grabbed a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and third innings. Parkside cut the lead in half in the fifth inning when senior Jessica Crull singled down the left field line to score redshirt-senior Cassie Walek. The Saints added an insurance run in the top of the sixth, and took their 3-1 lead into the seventh.

The Rangers weren't going down without a fight, and started the seventh with a triple from freshman Jadynn Powell. Walek drove her in with her second single of the game, then senior Megan Aliverti drove in Walek to tie the game at 3-3 and send the game to extras. The extra innings didn't last long, and the Saints singled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

McClelland pitched all 7.0 innings for Parkisde, struck out six and gave up two earned runs on ten hits. Walek and Crull led the way offensively with two hits apiece. Other Rangers with hits were seniors Adrien Hall and Allison Hausl, junior Alyssa Laxson, Powell, and Aliverti.

GAME 2: Parkside 5, Maryville 2
Hausl started game two on the mound for Parkside. The first runs of the game came in a second inning flurry from the Green & White. The bases were loaded after a single from Hausl and walks from Laxson and junior Jessica Miklos. Freshman Alex Wooten drove in the first run on a single down the right field line, and Walek followed suit to bring the game to 2-0. Hall broke the game open right after with a bases-clearing double to push the lead to 5. With the added insurance, Hausl was able to shut down the Maryville lineup, only surrendering five hits and two runs in the game.

Hall led the way in game two, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Walek and Wooten also added two hits each. Hausl hurled a complete-game for the visitors and only gave up one earned run in her 7.0 innings pitched.
