Men's Basketball Falters Against Lake Superior State

Lake Superior State 62, Parkside 60
The Rangers returned home and had a chance in the final possession to snap their losing streak. Parkside had a lead in the last minute of the game, but couldn't get the stop they needed down the stretch to bring home the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team was able to separate themselves the whole night. The biggest lead between either team was a 19-12 Parkside lead in the first half. That lead was quickly wiped out by a 9-0 Lake Superior State run, and the teams traded baskets until it was 30-30 going into halftime.

The second half was much of the same, as neither team found separation until the final minute. The Rangers found themselves down 59-58 with the ball, and a minute left in the game. They got the go-ahead basket from freshman Solomon Oraegbu who found a lane to the hole late in the shot clock. The Lakers grabbed the lead back on the next possession with a layup of their own, with only nine seconds left on the clock. The Green & White couldn't capitalize on their last possession, and fell for the ninth straight time.

HEAR FROM COACH REIGEL
"We just haven't been able to make plays in the second halves of games this year," said head coach Luke Reigel. "Whether it's 10 minutes left or two minutes left, we just aren't able to make the big play to put us over the top."

STATWORTHY
The Rangers were led by redshirt-sophomore's Brandon Hau and Brandon Trimble, who each had 14 points. Hau added six rebounds and five assists, and Trimble added two rebounds and one assist. Oraegbu was the only other Parkside player to hit double-figures, with ten points to go with seven rebounds.

There wasn't much to separate the teams in terms of shooting either, as the Rangers shot 24-for-57 (42.1-percent) from the field, and the Lakers went 25-for-56 (44.6-percent). From three, Parkside shot 6-for-23 (26.1-percent) and Lake Superior State went 4-for-19 (21.1-percent).

WHAT'S NEXT
The team will stay home for the weekend to take on GLIAC leading No. 14 Ferris State on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. for Senior Day. To close out the season, Parkside will head to Purdue Northwest, and take on the Pride on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
