Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Offense Stalls as Men's Basketball Drops Road Game at WSU

WAYNE STATE 64, PARKSIDE 51
Parkside men's basketball couldn't snap its losing streak Saturday afternoon at Wayne State, as Warriors earned the win to split the season series with the Rangers. For the second straight game, redshirt-sophomore Brandon Hau led the team in scoring, with 17 against the Warriors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Hau connected on a 3-pointer on the Rangers' first field goal attempt of the game, giving Parkside the lead early-on, but that was the only time they would hold on to a lead throughout the ball game. Wayne State used a 10-0 run in the first half to lead by as many as 11 points and took a 35-28 lead into the locker room.

Parkside fought back in the second half, using a 10-0 run of their own to tie the Warriors 41-41 with 12:53 to play. Wayne State followed that with a 14-3 run and led by as many as 16 points in the second half, keeping the Rangers away from striking distance.

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Hau finished with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting and a trio of 3-pointers. He also led the team in rebounding (seven) while playing 37 minutes. Joey St. Pierre finished with eight points and five rebounds while Jonah Matulle had eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

Parkside shot 37.0-percent from the floor and 6-of-19 from downtown while the Warriors shot 39.7-percent but got a huge lift in offensive rebounding, getting 16 and outscoring Parkside 17-3 in second chance points.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers return home next week, hosting Lake Superior State on Thursday, Feb. 20 on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night, as well as Academic Achievement Night. Senior Day will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22 against Ferris State and will feature a tote bag giveaway from Goodwill.
