NORTHWOOD 55, PARKSIDE 52
Parkside men's basketball fell in a grind-it-out game on the road Thursday night to open the New Year, as the Rangers will fall to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in GLIAC play. A nice look at a game-tying 3-pointer from
Ramar Evans with 7-seconds left didn't fall for the Rangers.
Â
HEAR FROM COACH REIGEL
"We just can't find our shooting stroke on the road right now," head coach
Luke Reigel said. "We ran our offense well. We took care of the ball. We even executed our sets down the stretch but we just aren't knocking down the shots. If we keep running our offense and taking care of the ball I know we will have success away from home. Just hope it's sooner rather than later."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside had a slow start, trailing 9-0 just over 3-minutes into the ball game and was playing from behind for much of the game. Following the 9-0 run to start the game from Northwood, Parkside ripped off an 8-0 run that included triples from
Brandon Hau and
Brandon Trimble. The Rangers took their first lead of the game on a
Jonathan Morrobel 3-pointer with 10:50 to play in the half. After the teams traded the lead back-and-forth for the rest of the way, Parkside gained a 23-22 lead with 5:51 to play and both teams went scoreless until the Timberwolves scored with just 25-seconds remaining in the first. A pair of Evans' free throws gave the Rangers a 25-24 advantage at the half.
Â
In the second, Northwood opened on an 11-0 run and held on to the lead until the Rangers battled back to tie it up at 48-48 thanks to another Hau 3-pointer. The Rangers led 52-50 with 2:23 remaining, but Northwood got back-to-back layups and held Parkside scoreless the rest of the way.
Â
A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Hau led Parkside with 11 points and hit three 3-pointers.
Joey St. Pierre had 10 points and team highs in rebounds (7) and blocks (5) while Trimble and
Solomon Oraegbu each had eight points.
Â
The Rangers shot 34.5-percent from the floor and went 9-for-24 from beyond the arc. Parkside was +1 in the turnover battle and -3 in rebounding.
