Volleyball Falls in Both Matches to End Hampton Inn Invitational

MATCH 1: Winona State 3, Parkside 1
MATCH 2: McKendree 3, Parkside 1
Parkside volleyball finished out the Second Annual Hampton Inn Invitational on Saturday at DeSimone Gymnasium, but the Rangers dropped a pair of 3-1 matches to Winona State early on and McKendree in the nightcap. At the conclusion of the match, senior Ann Leo was named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
HEAR FROM COACH BAREA
"It was a great tournament all-around," head coach Leigh Barea said. "I think we are really getting better as a team but we are still figuring out our identity."
"Preseason tournaments are good preparation for the season, so I'm excited to see how the team develops after our tough preseason schedule."
 
MATCH ONE RECAP
Winona State jumped out to the early 2-0 lead after a 25-22 win in the first set and 25-18 win in the second. In the third, Parkside bounced back to earn a 25-18 win in the third, but Winona State rolled to the 25-11 win in the fourth.
 
The Warriors hit .219 in the match while the Rangers hit .104. Winona State won the battle in digs (70-54), assists (49-38) and kills (53-41).
 
MATCH TWO RECAP
In the final match of the weekend, McKendree and Parkside split the first two matches, entering into the third tied up 1-1. The Bearcats took over in the end, winning the third 25-20 and the fourth 25-10.
 
The Bearcats hit .209 in the match while the Rangers finished at .147. Parkside had 10 blocks while McKendree had nine, but the Bearcats had more kills, aces, assists and digs.
 
STATWORTHY
Junior Rachel Hedman had a team-high 12 kills in the first match and followed that with seven in the second. Jazmine Neal had 12 against McKendree and nine in the first match.
 
Freshman Reese Rossnagel had a team-high 9.0 blocks while Carlee Behnke had 8.0. Emma Habisch led the team with 39 assists while Ann Leo had 34 digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside returns to action on Friday, Sept. 20 at Wayne State, then faces Ashland on the road Saturday, Sept. 21. The Rangers return to DeSimone Gymnasium on Tuesday, Sept. 24 against Purdue Northwest.
