Parkside volleyball used a huge comeback to win the opening match over Quincy Friday morning at the Second Annual Hampton Inn Invitational, but the Rangers were downed by Upper Iowa 3-0 in the nightcap of day one.

"I was really proud of the first match and how we battled back for the win," second year head coach
Leigh Barea. "We worked through a match where we didn't play our best, but we were still able to come out with the win."

"In the second match, with Upper Iowa having six seniors on the court and our team loaded with freshman, it was really a learning experience for our team. I hope tomorrow we can use that game as fuel and I hope we respond in a positive way."

MATCH ONE RECAP
Parkside took the first set 28-26 after trailing 22-18, but Quincy bounced back to take back-to-back sets and a 2-1 lead in the match. Parkside rallied to take set four 25-23 and then rolled to a 15-8 win in the fifth set.

In the fifth set, Parkside had 12 kills and just two errors, with a hitting percentage of .476.

MATCH TWO RECAP
Upper Iowa improved to 5-0 with the win in the final match of day one, as they cruised to a three-set win (25-13, 25-11, 25-8). The Peacocks had just seven errors in the game, while the Rangers had 21.

STATWORTHY
Rachel Hedman led the way in kills in both games, with a combined 20.
Reese Rossnagel had 13 kills and
Lexi Packard had 12 in the first match.
Carlee Behnke had a team-high 7.0 blocks while
Alysha Brickl had a team-high 30 assists.

Ann Leo, who is chasing the Parkside career record in digs, finished with 46 on the day.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will finish out the Second Annual Hampton Inn Invitational on Saturday with a pair of matches, first against Winona State at 12:30 p.m. and second against McKendree at 7:15 p.m. Matches start in DeSimone Gymnasium at 8 a.m.
