Baseball Downs SVSU 13-5 in Series Finale

Parkside baseball earned a series split on the road after the Rangers' bats were hot in their 13-5 win over the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. ­­Parkside pounded out 14 hits while five players had a multiple hit game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside scored two runs in the second inning thanks to a Dominic Esposito RBI single and a Lane Ochs RBI bunt, but took a huge lead in the top of the fourth where they scored seven runs, taking a 9-2 advantage.
 
In the fourth, Casey Oliver hit a two-run single, Justin Bennett drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Hunter Weddel hit a two-run double, Esposito hit a sacrifice fly and Shawn Rigsby hit an RBI single. The Rangers had seven hits and drew a walk in the inning as well.
 
In the top of the sixth, Parkside was able to score three runs on an infield error where Ochs bunted to score Noah Tyrrell, but Rigsby and Niko Diaz also came in to score on the play. Diaz drove in the Rangers final run of the game on an RBI double to left center.
 
STATWORTHY
After a good day yesterday, Esposito followed it up with a 2-for-4 game with a double, two RBI and two runs. Diaz went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, Rigsby went 2-for-3, Ochs 2-for-5 and Kurt Mlachnik 2-for-6. Weddel finished 1-for-2 with two RBI, two runs and a double.
 
Keaton Kastberg pitched 5.0 innings allowing three runs on three hits to earn the win. Jake Macaluso pitched 3.1 innings in relief following by a 0.2 inning shutout ending by Ricky West.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers welcome in Davenport next weekend for a four-game series beginning on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Unfortunately, Parkside cannot make the GLIAC Tournament.
