Baseball Falls in Series Opener after Late Davenport Run

DAVENPORT 4, PARKSIDE 3
In a well-played game by both sides, the Parkside baseball team dropped the opener of the series to Davenport 4-3 after the Panthers were able to push a run across in the top of the ninth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Davenport jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Parkside scored one in the bottom of the first on a Justin Bennett RBI single and came back to tie it up 2-2 in the bottom of the third on a Ryan Hollander RBI single that plated Casey Oliver.

The Rangers took their only lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Bennett RBI double that scored Oliver again, making it 3-2 Parkside. Davenport tied it up at 6-6 in the top of the sixth, then pushed the go-ahead run across in the ninth after a leadoff single and a wild pitch.

STATWORTHY
Both teams tallied nine hits in the game, and both sides saw multiple impressive defensive plays. Bennett finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Oliver went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs and Niko Diaz went 2-for-4.

Jarrett Rossiano started the game for the Rangers going 6.0 innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits, while Jake Macaluso pitched the final 3.0 innings and was tagged with the loss.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will honor its 10 seniors pregame on Saturday, where the Rangers and Panthers will battle against at 3:30 p.m. in a doubleheader at Historic Simmons Field.
