Sophomore
Alyssa McClelland threw her third complete-game shutout in her last four games as Parkside softball earned a split against former GLVC foe Lewis on the road Wednesday afternoon. The Rangers, who have now won seven of their last nine games, won game one 1-0, but fell 6-1 in game two.
Â
GAME 1: Parkside 1, Lewis 0
McClelland kept her strong second half of the season up, tossing her third complete-game shutout in the game one win over Lewis. Despite a leadoff walk, McClelland carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning until the Flyers broke through with their only hit of the game, but McClelland kept the Flyers off the scoreboard.
Â
The Rangers offense was limited to four hits, but
Cassie Walek launched her first home run of the season over the center field wall in the top of the fourth for the only run of the game. The catcher
Morgan Moore went 2-for-3 to follow up a strong performance last week.
Â
McClelland's final line read 7.0 innings, one hit, no runs, three walks with three strikeouts. She improved to 4-2 with the win.
Â
GAME 2: Lewis 6, Parkside 1
Lewis used three home runs in game two, while the Flyers limited the Rangers to four hits. Lewis hit a two-run home run in the first, a solo shot in the third and a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
Â
Parkside made it interesting in the top of the seventh, coming back to score a run and load the bases. Allison Haul led off with a walk and
Kellie Fenza drew a one-out walk to put runners on first and second. After an error on the Flyers,
Adrien Hall hit a sacrifice fly to score
Lydia Byrd, but a flyout with the bases loaded ended the game.
Â
Walek went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in game two, while Crull and Sikon each added a hit.
Kate Czoschke suffered the loss, while Haul pitched the final 3.2 innings allowing three runs, none of which were earned.
