The Rangers battled but fell short as they dropped both games of their doubleheader against the Davenport Panthers. The Panthers won a nail-biter in game one by a score of 2-1, then took game two 6-0.
GAME 1: Davenport 2, Parkside 1
It was a pitcher's duel in game one as
Alyssa McClelland squared off against Davenport's Mallory Teunissen. The Panthers jumped out in front, scoring the first two runs of the game in the first inning. Parkside responded in the fifth inning with a run of their own when
Adrien Hall doubled to center field, driving in
Cassie Walek. The Rangers threatened in the bottom of the seventh when
Jessica Miklos singled and later advanced to third on a single from Walek. With two outs and the tying run on third, Hall lined out to the center fielder to conclude game one with a final score 2-1.
McClelland pitched a complete game for the Rangers, giving up seven hits and two runs, as well as striking out two. Walek and
Megan Aliverti led the Rangers with two hits apiece.
GAME 2: Davenport 6, Parkside 0
Davenport took the lead in the third inning with a pair of runs and never looked back. The Panthers added two runs in the fifth inning making it 4-0, and two more in the seventh with nine total hits. The Rangers had six hits in the game, with Hall and
Morgan Sikon leading the team with two each.
Allison Hausl pitched a complete game for Parkside, surrendering nine hits and three earned runs, while also striking out one.
STATWORTHY
Hall led the Rangers on the day with three hits; she also registered Parkside's only extra-base hit and RBI. Walek also had three hits on the day.
WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside has a quick turnaround, as they will head to Purdue Northwest tomorrow, April 20 to take on the Pride in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Rangers will then head to Ashland for another doubleheader on Tuesday, April 23 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
