Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Opens Long Road Trip with Losses to No. 7 GVSU

Adrien Hall hit her first home run of the season.

Parkside softball started off its eight-game road trip on Wednesday afternoon, but No. 7 Grand Valley State took both games from the Rangers. The Lakers won game one 8-0 and took game two 7-2.

GAME 1: #7 Grand Valley State 8, Parkside 0
It was all Lakers in the opener, as GVSU held the Rangers to just one hit and struck 15 batters out.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GVSU took a 4-0 lead after three innings, and the Lakers' pitching was too strong for the Rangers to make a comeback. Cassie Walek finished 1-for-3 while Kellie Fenza drew a walk in the leadoff spot.

GAME 2: #7 Grand Valley State 7, Parkside 2
Kate Czoschke pitched the first 2.2 innings hitless, but the Lakers used a big five-run fourth inning to pull away and kept the Rangers off the scoreboard until the top of the sixth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With the Lakers up 6-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Morgan Moore led off the inning by reaching on an error. Lydia Byrd came in to pinch run and came in to score on a Walek sacrifice fly. Parkside added its second run in the top of the seventh off an Adrien Hall home run, the first of the season for her and for the Rangers.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will continue its road trip with two more games at Davenport on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. / 4:30 p.m. Then the team will head to Ferris State for a pair of games on Saturday and two more at Northwood on Sunday.
