Flanigan Hits Game-Winner to Push Rangers Past Lakers

PARKSIDE 60, LAKE SUPERIOR STATE 58
With the game tied 58-58 in the final seconds, Chavares Flanigan hit the game-winning layup with :02-seconds remaining to help Parkside win its ninth straight home game. Parkside, who improved to 13-11 overall and 11-7 in the GLIAC, beat LSSU earlier this season on a Brandon Trimble buzzer-beater in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. This was the least amount of points the Rangers scored in a win and also the season low for Lake Superior State offensively. The Parkside defense, thanks in large part to Flanigan, held the Lakers' leading scorer, Malek Adams, to just three points after he came in averaging over 18.0 points per game.

The Rangers' took over sole possession of fourth place in the GLIAC with the win and will host reigning national champion Ferris State, who is currently No. 3 in the conference, on Saturday in a White Out game.

HEAR FROM COACH REIGEL
"That was a complete opposite game from the first time we played them, that was a slugfest, it wasn't very pretty but at this point of the year it doesn't matter what a win looks like," head coach Luke Reigel said. "We've had great crowds this year, we really feed off this energy, everyone feels more comfortable here at home and our young guys seem to play better here."

DOWN THE STRETCH
After a pair of Flanigan free throws at the 4:22 mark, the Rangers led 54-46, but a 9-0 LSSU run brought Lakers in front 55-54 with 2:33 to play. Joey St. Pierre had a big offensive rebound and put back to put Parkside up by one point with 2:10 to play and Flanigan made it a three point ball game with a layup with :31-seconds left. The Lakers' Blake Marquardt hit a tough game-tying 3-pointer with :23-seconds left, leading to a Parkside timeout and the eventual Flanigan game-winning layup.

Parkside led for nearly the entire game, taking a 30-27 lead at the break and extending the lead to as many as nine points in the second half.

STATWORTHY
Flanigan filled the stat sheet once again, going for 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals. Trimble had a nice game off the bench, scoring 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting while St. Pierre had seven points and four rebounds.
Parkside shot 46-percent (23-50) while holding the Lakers to 36.7-percent (22-60). The Rangers went +5 in rebounding and -7 in the turnover battle.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers welcome in reigning national champion Ferris State on Saturday, Feb. 23 for a 3 p.m. game following the women's. Parkside will honor seniors Ben Becker, Bret Barclay, Adam Bonk and Flanigan pregame. Fans are encouraged to wear white for the White Out game, sponsored by Goodwill.
