Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Flanigan's Near Triple-Double Not Enough at No. 20 Ashland

#20 ASHLAND 68, PARKSIDE 64
Chavares Flanigan had a near triple-double, but that wasn't enough for Parkside men's basketball on the road against Ashland, as the Eagles won 68-64 to split the season series. Flanigan had a team-high 20 points along with nine rebounds and nine assists. The Rangers handed Ashland its first loss of the season earlier this year inside DeSimone Gymnasium.

The game was tied in the final 6:00 minutes, but once Ashland grabbed the lead they never gave it up. The Rangers trailed by two points with the ball and :23-seconds left but a late turnover helped the Eagles seal the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers never led in this game, but tied the Eagles four times. Ashland was up by as many as 15 points, which came in the final minute of the first half. The Rangers trailed by 12 at the half and battled back in the second half to tie it up at 55-55 with 6:37 to play, but Ashland regained the lead and never lost it again. Flanigan was fouled with :02-seconds to play, made his first free throw and purposely missed the second, but Parkside couldn't grab the rebound.

STATWORTHY
After Flanigan's big day, Adam Bonk finished with 14 points and hit four 3-pointers. Joey St. Pierre, Ramar Evans and Cameron Myre all finished with eight points. Myre's eight was a career-high for the freshman.

Both teams were about even across the box score, with the Eagles shooting 50-percent and the Rangers at 49. The two struggled at the free-throw line, with the Rangers going 4-for-9 and the Eagles finishing 9-of-22. Drew Noble, Ashland's big man, finished with 25 points and eight rebounds.

GLIAC STANDINGS
With just three games left to play, Parkside falls into a tie for fourth place with Northern Michigan as both teams are 10-7. The Rangers will face No. 3, No. 6 and No. 12 in the standings to finish out the season.
