Parkside volleyball opened its weekend with a nice 3-0 win over the Lakers on the road Friday afternoon. The Rangers won 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 to improve to 5-12 this season and 3-5 overall. Parkside will finish out the weekend against Saginaw Valley State on Saturday.

"I'm really proud of how the team came in focused and determined after the long road trip," head coach
Leigh Barea said. "They stayed calm the entire match and each person focused on their job which allowed us to execute at a high level. Our blocking and defense made huge jumps this week in practice and it showed this afternoon."

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first set, the teams were tied 5-5 early, but a quick 6-0 run by the Rangers helped them take a lead they wouldn't surrender. In the second set, the teams were even until very late in the set at 22-22, but Parkside ended it with a quick 3-0 run to win the set and take a 2-0 lead. Midway through the third set, the teams were tied 15-15 and the Rangers kept their foot on the gas and rolled to the third set win and the 3-0 victory.

WHO LED THE WAY
Junior
Rachel Hedman, who missed last weekend's matches, led the team with 12 kills and also added eight digs.
Jazmine Neal had seven kills while
Lexi Packard and
Carlee Behnke each had six kills.
Ann Leo had a team-high 20 digs and freshman
Alysha Brickl had 21 assists.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will close out the weekend with a 1 p.m. match at Saginaw Valley State on Saturday. The Rangers head to the conference crossover tournament in Indianapolis, Ind., next weekend. Â
