Overtime Win Keeps Rangers Perfect in GLIAC

Prpa Scored Game-Winner in 98th Minute

Parkside 2, Northwood 1 (OT)
HEAR FROM COACH ZITZKE
"I have to give credit to Northwood," head coach Jason Zitzke said. "They were down a player in the second half and they came out strong and played with so much heart."
"This was a hard-fought game and in the end, we found a way to win," Zitzke added. "All of our games up to this point could've gone either way, which just shows the competition in this league. We look forward to our match on Sunday."

A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS
The Rangers improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the GLIAC, putting them in sole possession of first place in the conference. No. 22 Northern Michigan, who the Rangers will face at noon on Sunday, will come in at 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC. Northwood, who was receiving votes in the latest national poll, falls to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the league.

PRPA SEALS THE DEAL
The Rangers went up 1-0 off a goal from redshirt-senior Vic Vera. Vera shot from the top of the box and placed the ball to the right upper 90 in the 27th minute. Parkside kept the lead the remainder of the first half.
The whole game was very foul-heavy, but in the 75th minute, the Northwood goalie received a red card, causing the Timberwolves to play the rest of the game with only 10 men. Less than three minutes later, the Northwood offense scored off a corner kick to tie the game. This goal led the game into overtime.
Tensions of both teams were high going into overtime, but in the 98th minute, redshirt-junior Leki Prpa sealed the deal. After going 1v1 with a defender, Prpa was able to slot the ball past the keeper, scoring his fifth goal of the season, which keeps him in a tie for the lead in the GLIAC.

STATWORTHY
Junior goalkeeper Juan Gonzalez, who came in as the GLIAC's leader in saves, tallied seven on the match. Northwood received eight corner kicks while the Rangers had four. Both teams received double digits for fouls: Northwood with 14 and Parkside with 17. Parkside's win streak improves to four and the Rangers are now 3-0 in the GLIAC and 5-2 overall.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers compete Sunday, Sept. 23 at Wood Road Field against #22 Northern Michigan. Kickoff is at noon.
