Katie Adams Leads Volleyball to Five-set Comeback Win over GVSU

Katie Adams, who came into tonight’s match second in the nation in triple-doubles, finished with a career-high 22 kills, on a .450 hitting percentage.

PARKSIDE 3, GRAND VALLEY STATE 2
The Rangers found themselves down 13-8 in the fifth set of their match against Grand Valley State Friday night. They rallied to score five-straight points and came back to win 20-18 to take the match and bring themselves one step closer to securing a spot in the GLIAC tournament. The Rangers will finish out the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Davenport for Senior Day.

"I can't put into words how proud I am of the team tonight, they played fearless, determined, and focused the entire match," said Coach Barea. "Katie was huge for us all match long. She was huge as a player and a leader, and kept the team focused the entire match."

"The team has been working really hard in the last few weeks of practice to make sure that we could finish conference strong."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers took the early lead taking the first set 25-17. The Lakers bounced back to take sets two and three, 25-18, 25-20, respectively. Rangers tied it up at two sets a piece by taking the fourth set 25-16. They were then able to come back in the fifth set when they found themselves down 13-8. During the Rangers 5-0 run, senior Katie Adams had three kills to help ignite the crowd. The teams battled back and forth until it was 18-17 to GVSU, and the Rangers rattled off three straight points including another kill by Adams to win the set.

FIVE SET FRIDAY
The Rangers improved to 3-0 in five set matches on Friday, with wins over Northern Michigan, Wayne State, and now Grand Valley State. Parkside also moved to 4-0 on Friday home matches.

ADAMS LEADS THE WAY
Adams, who came into tonight's match second in the nation in triple-doubles, finished with a career-high 22 kills, on a .450 hitting percentage. She also contributed 26 assists and 12 digs. Emma Habisch lead the team with 29 assists while Ann Leo had a game-high 22 digs. Rachel Hedman added 15 kills, while Lexie Calloway had 14.

GLIAC TOURNAMENT
With the win tonight, the Rangers are in the driver's seat for a spot in the GLIAC Tournament. They can only be the No. 7 or No. 8 seed, depending on the results of Grand Valley State vs. Purdue Northwest and Northern Michigan vs. Ferris State on Saturday.

SENIOR DAY
Parkside will finish out the finish out the 2018 season on Saturday as they host Davenport for Senior Day.
