Ranger Volleyball Takes Down PNW in Straight Sets

Parkside volleyball made quick work of visiting Purdue Northwest, as the Rangers won in three straight sets (25-15, 26-24, 25-20). The Green & White have Saturday off before hitting the road next weekend.

HEAR FROM COACH BAREA
"I'm very proud how we came out mentally focused and executed the game plan," head coach Leigh Barea said. "The team worked really hard in practice all week on the things we needed to improve on, and that really showed tonight in how we took care of the volleyball. It was good to see our offense continue to produce."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside came out hot to start the match, taking a 5-1 lead to open the first set and they wouldn't trail the rest of the way. Set two was a different story however, as the teams battled back and forth. PNW erased a 20-13 Parkside lead to tie it at 24-24, but the Rangers saw a kill from Lexie Calloway and a Pride attack error to finish out. In the final set, the teams were tie late in the match again, but the Rangers ripped off five straight points to take a 24-19 and eventually win the match.

STATWORTHY
The Rangers hit .269, the second highest total this season behind last weekend's match against Ohio Dominican. Parkside finished with 9.0 blocks and 44 kills while the Pride had 3.0 and 34, respectively. The Rangers also had more digs and assists. Individually, three Rangers had double-digit kills in Rachel Hedman (13), Calloway (12) and Katie Adams (12). Emma Habisch led the team in assists (20) while Ann Leo had a team-high 18 digs. Elizabeth Mavis, who's been moving up in the record books in blocks, finished with 6.0.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will have Saturday off before heading back on the road next weekend to face Ashland on Friday night and Wayne State on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers return home on Nov. 2 against Grand Valley State then host Davenport on Saturday, Nov. 3 for Senior Day.
