Volleyball Downs Ohio Dominican, but Falls to William Jewell

ANN LEO CHASING HISTORY
Ann Leo, who is just a junior, moved into second place all-time with 1,579 career digs, passing Jackie Nehls. Leo had 13 in game one and 21 in game two. The only Parkside volleyball player ahead of Leo is now Stacy Esme, who finished her career with 1,878.


GAME ONE: Parkside 3, Ohio Dominican 0
REDEMPTION
After a tough loss on day one of the Crossover Tournament, the Parkside volleyball team bounced back with a dominating 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-16) victory over Ohio Dominican of the GMAC. Parkside never trailed in the first set, and came back from being down early in the second set to earn a win. In the third set, the Panthers owned a slight 4-3 advantage early on, but the Rangers ripped off five straight and eight of the next nine points to take a big lead they would not surrender.
 
TEAM STATS
Parkside finished with more digs (55-44), kills (46-31), blocks (10-4) and outhit the Panthers .297 to .114. In the third set, Parkside hit .341, going for 18 kills on 44 attempts with just three errors.
 
INDIVIDUALLY
For the second straight match, Rachel Hedman led the team in kills with 13 while Lexie Calloway had 12 and Jazmine Neal had eight. Elizabeth Mavis led all with 8.0 blocks followed by Neal's 7.0. Katie Adams led in both assists (25) and digs (16).

 
GAME TWO: William Jewell 3, Parkside 1
Parkside was right there in the first two sets against former GLVC foe William Jewell, but the Cardinals narrowly defeated the Rangers 26-24 in the first set and 25-23 in the second. Parkside battled back to claim the third set 25-17, forcing a fourth set. ­­In the fourth set, William Jewell used a quck 6-0 run to own a 9-5 lead and held on to the lead throughout. The Rangers again stayed right with William Jewell, coming to within one point at 20-19 after a Lexie Calloway kill.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Parkside finished with more kills (57-53), aces (7-2), assists (55-50) and digs (57-53). Rachel Hedman led the Rangers in kills for the third straight match, going for 18. Calloway had 17 kills and Katie Adams had 25 assists and a pair of aces. Elizabeth Mavis had 10 kills and 4.0 blocks.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers have just one game next weekend, which is Hall of Fame Weekend at Parkside. The Green & White will host Purdue Northwest on Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.
