Men's Basketball Downs Second Straight Top-25 Team

The Rangers beat top-ranked Bellarmine last Saturday.

SOMERS, Wis.—DeSimone Gymnasium has proven to be a tough place to play for nationally-ranked opponents as of late, as the UW-Parkside men's basketball took down No. 25 William Jewell Thursday night 80-66 behind huge games from seniors Jameel Moore and Goran Zagorac.

Zagorac went for his second straight double-double, finishing with a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds while Moore was just one point shy of tying his career high, going for 27 points, five rebounds and five assists; he also went 10-for-11 from the charity stripe. Both Ramar Evans and Espen Fjaerestad tallied 11 points.
With the win, the Rangers improved to 4-3 in league play and have now knocked off back-to-back ranked opponents after beating top-ranked Bellarmine on Saturday, Jan. 13. Parkside did suffer a loss to No. 10 Ferris State earlier this year, making them now 2-1 against top-25 teams.

In the first half, the teams battled back-and-forth for the first 10:00, until WJ took a four-point lead after a 3-pointer with 9:08 to play until the half. Following the Cardinal triple, Parkside went on a 15-0 run that included nine points by Moore on a couple of treys and an and-one, giving the Rangers a 32-21 advantage. The Cardinals nailed a buzzer-beating three to make it a 34-31 Parkside lead at the half.
In the second half, Parkside hung on to a small lead for the first 10:00, until WJ took its first lead of the half at 54-53 with 10:04 to play. The Rangers answered shortly after, with the game tied at 57-57 with 8:22 to play, the Green & White ripped off an 11-2 run and outscored the Cardinals 23-9 the rest of the way to hold on to the win. The Rangers iced it away at the free-throw line, going 6-for-6 in the final 1:00.

The Rangers will have their fourth straight home game this Saturday, Jan. 20 against Rockhurst with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
