Rangers Host Illinois Springfield and McKendree in Weekend Softball

SOMERS, Wis. -- Finding themselves right in the middle of the chase for a berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, the Wisconsin-Parkside softball team hosts Illinois Springfield and McKendree in a pair of conference doubleheaders this weekend at the Case Softball Complex.

Wisconsin-Parkside will host Illinois Springfield on Saturday (April 8) at 12 p.m. and then host McKendree on Sunday (April 9) at 12 p.m.

The Rangers, who are currently 11-19 overall and 6-6 in conference play, are tied with William Jewell and Missouri S&T for the eighth spot in the GLVC standings. The top eight teams during the regular season will play for the conference championship on May 4-6 at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which is 4-2 in its last six games, split a GLVC doubleheader on Tuesday at Lewis. The Flyers won the opening game 10-4 before the Rangers rebounded to win the second game 11-1 behind two home runs from Carly Dundee and a grand slam from Kellie Fenza.

Dundee and Jessica Shields have been red hot over the past six games for the Rangers. Dundee is batting .444 with four homers, 10 RBIs and a 1.167 slugging percentage, while Shields is batting .429 and has scored 10 runs and stolen eight bases. Dundee has also been outstanding in the circle for the Rangers over that same time period as she has posted a 3-0 record with a 1.46 earned run average.

For the season, Shields tops the Rangers with a .365 batting average and ranks fourth in the GLVC with 14 stolen bases. Dundee is second on the team with a .351 batting average and is tied for third in the league with nine home runs, while Fenza is batting .341 and is second on the team with 19 RBIs.

Dundee has a 7-10 record on the mound with a 3.11 ERA, while Allison Hausl has a 3-6 overall record and a 5.69 earned run average.

Illinois Springfield enters the doubleheader with a 20-18 overall record and a 6-8 record in conference play, while McKendree is 19-14 overall and a 6-6 in the GLVC pending the results of its doubleheader at Lewis on Saturday.
