Rangers Drop GLVC Game to Hot-Shooting William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. -- Senior Brittney Fair scored 15 points, but William Jewell placed five players in double figures and shot 61.5 percent from the floor in an 89-65 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday in the Mabee Center.

William Jewell, which improved to 9-11 overall and 5-7 in the GLVC, shot 80.0 (20-of-25) percent from the floor in the first half as the Cardinals raced out to a 45-20 lead at halftime. William Jewell then made 11-of-13 shots from the floor and shot 84.6 percent from the field as it stretched the lead to 75-36 after three quarters.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which dropped to 7-14 overall and 5-8 in conference play, shot 35.0 percent from the floor for the game.

Fair was 4-of-10 from the floor to lead the Rangers with 15 points, while Shelby Cheston added 11 points. Taylor Stephen, Lauren Boerger and Carolina Rahkonen each scored seven points for the Rangers.

William Jewell was led by Kayla Harrell who scored a game-high 18 points. Maddie Nelson and Katie Nelson each had 15 points for the Cardinals, while Hayden Butler scored 11 points and Lindsey McCoy added 10 points.

William Jewell took control of the game midway through the first quarter.

After a layup by Cheston cut the William Jewell lead to 10-6 with 5:39 to play in the opening quarter, the Cardinals answered with a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 19-6 with 1:31 remaining in the opening quarter.

A three-pointer by Olivia Montague cut the Cardinals lead to 21-13, but Nelson made a pair of free throws to up the lead to 23-13 after the first quarter.

The Rangers cut the lead to 23-15 on a pair of free throws from Fair, but the Cardinals reeled off a 14-0 run to extend the lead to 37-15 with 3:51 remaining before halftime.

The Cardinals took their largest lead of the game at 73-34 on a three-pointer by McCoy with 58 seconds to play in the third quarter.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns home to face Quincy on Thursday (Feb. 9) at 5:30 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
