Flanagan Free Throws Lift UW-Parkside Past William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. -- Kyle Flanagan made two free throws with one second remaining in regulation lifting No. 22 Wisconsin-Parkside to a 79-75 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over William Jewell on Saturday in the Mabee Center.

Patrick Whelan made one of two free throws with two seconds to play to cut the Rangers lead to 77-75, but Flanagan sealed the victory for Wisconsin-Parkside by making both of his free throw attempts.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 18-4 overall and 10-3 in the GLVC, withstood a late surge by the Cardinals to claim the victory.

The Rangers led 54-40 with 14:56 to play in the second half before the Cardinals rallied  to tie the game at 74-74 with 47 seconds to play.

Flanagan put the Rangers ahead to stay with two free throws with 25 seconds to play, which gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 76-74 lead.

Alexander Brown made one of two free throw attempts with three seconds remaining to increase the lead to 77-74 before Whelan brought the Cardinals to with two points with his free throw.

Flanagan finished with 19 points to lead the Rangers, while Brown added 16 points. Kendale McCullum finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Chavares Flanigan added 10 points for the Rangers.

Goran Zagorac added nine points and 11 rebounds for Wisconsin-Parkside.

William Jewell, which dropped to 6-14 overall and 2-10 in conference play, was led by Matt Lassen who scored a game-high 30 points. Emil Ostaficuic had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Whelan finished with 19 points.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns to DeSimone Gymnasium on Thursday (Feb. 9) for a GLVC game against Quincy beginning at 7:30 p.m.
