SOMERS, Wis. -- Senior
Alexander Brown led four players in double figures with 19 points and Wisconsin-Parkside shot 56.9 percent from the floor in defeating Quincy 82-61 on Thursday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game in DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Rangers improved to 12-0 at home with the victory and raised their overall record to 19-4 while improving to 11-3 in the GLVC.
Wisconsin-Parkside shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the first half and 56.7 percent from the floor in the second half in defeating the GLVCÂ West leading Hawks.
Wisconsin-Parkside took control of the game with a 17-3 run midway through the first half.
After back-to-back layups by Bobby Frasco cut the Hawks lead to 20-19,
Jake Verhagen started the run with a jumper.
Kendale McCullum followed with a layup and Verhagen made two free throws that increased the Wisconsin-Parkside lead to 26-19 with 5:57 to play in the opening half.
Joseph Tagarelli scored on a short jumper for the Hawks to cut the lead to 26-21, but McCullum answered with a layup to push the lead to 28-21 with 4:35 remaining in the first half.
Evan McGaughey made one of two free throws at the 4:31 mark, but the Rangers then reeled off nine straight points to seize control of the contest.
Adam Bonk began the run with a three-pointer and Brown added two layups and
Goran Zagorac finished the run with a dunk giving the Rangers a 37-22 lead with 49 seconds remaining before halftime.
Wisconsin-Parkside took a 38-23 lead into the intermission.
The Rangers increased the lead to 52-29 on a three-pointer by Bonk at the 15:16 mark of the second half and never led by less than 15 points for the remainder of the game.
Wisconsin-Parkside took a 24-point lead, its largest of the game, at two points in the second half.
McCullum had 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Rangers, while Verhagen and Zagorac each added 11 points.
Joe Borcia added six points and seven rebounds for Wisconsin-Parkside.
Quincy, which dropped to 20-5 overall and 10-4 in conference play, was led by Von Washington III who scored 15 points. McGaughey had 11 points and seven rebounds and Herm Senor II finished with 10 points.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 11) when it hosts Truman State in a GLVC contest at 3 p.m.
