Jack Krenzien (Wauwautosa, Wis.) notched a goal in the 80th minute, and senior
Nate Kitchell (Weston, Wis.) made four second-half saves as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against UIndy on Sunday afternoon.
The two teams were scoreless through the first 78-plus minutes, before free kicks for each team proved to be lethal scoring opportunities.
After a Parkside foul at the top of the box, UIndy's John Ling ripped a drive through the box and into the back of the net near the far post for a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived for the Greyhounds, due a foul on the other end which set up the Rangers. Sophomore
Burim Husseini (Milwaukee, Wis.) crossed the kick into the box, where Krenzien was able to connect on the other end and deflect the equalizer past the UIndy keeper.
Kitchell was tremendous down the stretch in goal, including a leaping save in the 86th minute off a free kick from David Kurz. He added another impressive save just 29 seconds later, helping to send the contest into overtime. Â
After the furious finish to the game, the teams managed just one shot total in the two overtime periods.
Parkside will take a week off before playing at Lewis on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m.Â
