KENOSHA, Wis. — The Parkside men's soccer team's season came to a close on Saturday afternoon, losing to Roosevelt 2-1 in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals. Parkside (7-8-2, 5-6-2) has now lost in the quarterfinals at home in back-to-back seasons and still is without a GLIAC Tournament win in nearly five years. The match stayed at 2-1 through a late physical stretch that included 10 combined fouls and cards over the final 10 minutes.
Parkside finished with more total shots and shots on goal, taking 11 attempts with five on frame compared with nine and three for Roosevelt (7-4-6, 4-5-4). The match also included 25 combined fouls and matching card totals, with each side receiving two yellow cards and one red card.
Parkside put all three of its first-half shots on frame, with
Keven Sosa scoring off of a beautiful through ball from Pablo Seco just after the 11th minute. Roosevelt generated more volume with seven shots and four corner kicks, and Krystian Niziolek's goal from Fynn Meves in the 37th minute left the match tied 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Parkside outshot Roosevelt 8-2, including saved attempts by
Nicolas De Andres and
Hudson Scheiber, but could not find an equalizer. Roosevelt scored the half's only goal on Fynn Mewes' penalty kick at 59:04 and held the 2-1 score through a physical finish that included multiple late cards.
Sosa scored on his only shot and finished with two points. Seco recorded an assist and put his lone shot on goal. De Andres added two shots, including one on goal.
Mateusz Pass played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.
Parkside finishes the year 7-8-2 overall and 5-6-2 in GLIAC play. Roosevelt is now 7-4-6 overall and 5-4-4 in conference play. The Lakers will head to University Center, Michigan next week to take on top-seeded Saginaw Valley State in the GLIAC semifinals.
