ROLLA, Mo. -- Senior
Brittney Fair led three players in double figures with 15 points and Wisconsin-Parkside earned its first Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season on Saturday with a 78-64 victory over Missouri S&T at Billy Key Court.
Fair was 7-of-12 from the floor and made her only three-point attempt to finish with a game-high 15 points. It marked the eighth time this season that Fair has led the Rangers in scoring.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play, also received 11 points from
Lauren Boerger and 10 points from
Asiah Lawson.
Hayley Maystead finished with nine points, whileÂ
Taylor Stephen and
Olivia Montague each had eight points.
Clarisa Martinez added nine rebounds, a blocked shot and a steal off the bench for Wisconsin-Parkside.
Missouri S&T, which fell to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the GLVC, was led by Maddie Raley who had 12 points. Janie Arand added 10 points and Jamy Douvier and Jordan Kabetske each scored eight points.
Wisconsin-Parkside shot 49.2 percent from the floor, while limiting Missouri S&T to 34.9 percent shooting. The Rangers also held a 40-34 advantage on the boards.
The Rangers used a big run to end the first quarter to take control of the game.
After Elsie Greenwood cut the Rangers lead to 8-6 with a jumper, Wisconsin-Parkside responded with an 11-0 run to end the first quarter.
Montague and Asiah Lawson hit back-to-back three-pointers to increase the Rangers lead to 14-6 with 4:52 to play in the first.
Boerger added a jumper and Maystead capped the run with a three-pointer, which upped the Wisconsin-Parkside lead to 19-6 after the first quarter.
Missouri S&T climbed to within 23-17 on a three-pointer Raley with 7:06 to play in the second quarter, but the Rangers answered with a 9-3 run to up the margin back to double figures.
Blair Arthur scored all seven of her points during the run, including a three-point basket, which gave the Rangers a 32-20 lead with 3:23 to play in the second quarter.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which never led by less than 10 points the rest of the game, took a 34-23 lead into halftime.
The Rangers used a 10-2 run, which featured four points from
Shelby Cheston, to increase the lead to 47-28 with 5:19 to play in the third quarter.
Wisconsin-Parkside took its largest lead of the game at 58-35 on a jumper by Boerger with 2:23 to play in the third quarter.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 12) when it hosts Maryville at 5:30 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
