Verghagen Leads Rangers to 12th Straight Victory

ROLLA, Mo. -- Senior Jake Verhagen scored 17 points and Alexander Brown added 16 points as Wisconsin-Parkside extended its winning streak to 12 straight games with a 72-54 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Missouri S&T on Saturday on Billy Key Court.

The winning streak is the longest for the Rangers since the 2014-15 team also won 12 straight games.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play, overcame a rare off shooting night by relying on its defense to remain undefeated in league play. The Rangers shot just 40.7 percent from the floor and just 26.9 percent from the three-point line, but Wisconsin-Parkside limited Missouri S&T to just 32.1 percent shooting from the field and 18.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Kendale McCullum finished with nine points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals and Goran Zagorac added eight points and two blocked shots. Kyle Flanagan had six points and Adam Bonk, Chavares Flanigan and Joe Borcia had five points.

Missouri S&T, which fell to 7-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play, was led by Randy Holmes and Juwan Miller who each had 11 points. Danylo Zuikov added 10 points for the Miners.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which never trailed in the game, took an early 13-6 lead after Verhagen drilled a three-pointer with 11:17 to play in the first half.

The Rangers used a 10-3 run at the midway point of the first half to increase the margin to double figures. McCullum began the run with a layup and two free throws by Flanagan increased the lead to 23-11 at the 7:18 mark of the first half.

Wisconsin-Parkside took a 35-24 lead into the intermission and never led by less than 10 points the rest of the way.

The Rangers used a 10-1 run to take their largest lead of the game at 66-43 following a layup by Bonk with 5:40 to play in the second half.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 12) when it hosts Maryville at 7:30 p.m. in a GLVC game in DeSimone Gymnasium.
