SOMERS, Wis. -- Following a brutal road trip that saw No. 25 Wisconsin-Parkside face its rival in Lewis and two nationally-ranked teams in Southern Indiana an Bellarmine, the Rangers return to DeSimone Gymnasium for a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash with Illinois Springfield on Thursday (Jan. 26) at 7:30 p.m.
The Rangers defeated Lewis, but dropped games at Southern Indiana and Bellarmine which snapped their 15-game winning streak which is the second-longest streak in school history.
Wisconsin-Parkside has been more than comfortable in the confines of DeSimone Gymnasium this season as the Rangers own a perfect 9-0 record in home games. The Rangers are outscoring the opposition by 21.1 points in their home games, while shooting a blistering 54.7 percent from the floor. Senior
Alexander Brown leads the Rangers in home games averaging 16.3 points per game, while junior
Kendale McCullum averages 15.6 points per contest.
Jake Verhagen (11.6) and
Goran Zagorac (10.4) also average in double figures for the Rangers at home.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which is 15-3 overall on the season, currently sits in a tie with Indianapolis for third place in the conference standings with a 7-2 record. Southern Indiana and Bellarmine are tied for the top spot in the East Division with an 8-1 mark.
Brown is also the Rangers overall leader in scoring at 16.5 points per game and McCullum ranks second on the team averaging 15.6 points per outing. Zagorac tops the team averaging 5.4 rebounds per contest, while also shooting a team-best 65.2 percent from the floor.
Illinois Springfield, which is 7-11 overall and 2-7 in conference play, has dropped two straight games and six of its last eight games overall. The Prairie Stars last victory came at McKendree on Jan. 16 when Illinois Springfield emerged with a 92-89 win.
Eddie Longmeyer leads Illinois Springfield averaging 15.2 points per game and Zach Steinberg averages 13.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
