Rangers Winning Streak Reaches 14 Straight Games

SOMERS, Wis. -- Junior Kendale McCullum scored a game-high 22 points leading four players in double figures and Wisconsin-Parkside extended its winning streak to 14 straight games with an 86-59 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday in DeSimone Gymnasium.

After shooting below 50.0 percent from the floor in its previous two games, Wisconsin-Parkside found its range by shooting 54.2 percent from the floor. The Rangers had topped 50.0 percent shooting from the field in six consecutive games prior to falling below that mark against both Missouri S&T and Maryville.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play, dominated the paint and also held a decisive edge in the turnover battle. The Rangers outscored Missouri-St. Louis 48-36 in the paint and turned 17 Triton turnovers into 19 points for the afternoon.

McCullum was 8-of-12 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line to lead the Rangers with 22 points. He also added six assists, two steals and three rebounds.

Backcourt mate Alexander Brown added 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and Goran Zagorac had 17 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots. The Rangers also received 13 points and eight rebounds from Joe Borcia.

Missouri-St. Louis, which dropped to 8-9 overall and 2-5 in league play, was led by Joseph English who scored 14 points. Hunter Reine added 10 points and four rebounds for the Tritons.

Wisconsin-Parkside trailed briefly in the first half and took the lead for good at 9-7 on a layup by Borcia with 14:33 to play in the first period. Eight consecutive free throws by the Rangers gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 29-15 lead with 4:25 to play in the first half, which marked its largest lead of the opening period.

Missouri-St. Louis trimmed the halftime lead to 33-25 when Elijah Watson scored with 39 seconds remaining before intermission.

The Tritons continued their comeback in the second period and got to within 35-31 on a layup by Watson with 18:35 to play in the game.

Wisconsin-Parkside answered with a 17-5 run to blow the game open. Zagorac capped the run with a pair of layups which gave the Rangers a 52-36 lead with 12:39 to play in the second period.

Wisconsin-Parkside would stretch the lead to as many as 31 points in the second half and never led by less than 20 points after a Brown layup with 8:48 to play in the game.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Monday (Jan. 16) when it visits Lewis for a GLVC game at 7:30 p.m.
