Rangers Roll to Third Straight Victory

SOMERS, Wis. -- Senior Rebecca Roembke had 17 kills and a season-high 21 digs leading the Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team to a 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday in DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Rangers picked up their third straight victory and improved to 4-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play. With the win, Wisconsin-Parkside moved into a second-place tie in East Division standings with McKendree and trail league-leading Lewis by one game for first place.

Roembke had plenty of help on Saturday as Lauren Hickson and Kasey Davis also finished with double-doubles. Hickson notched her third consecutive double-double as she finished with 45 assists and 17 digs, and Davis recorded her second straight double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs.

Elizabeth Mavis led the Rangers with seven blocks and she also added four kills, two assists and a dig.

The Rangers finished with a season-high 90 digs for the match led by Roembke's 21. Five UWP players reached double figures as Annie Leo (19), Hickson (17), Davis (17) and Lexi Calloway (12) joined Roembke in double digits.

After hitting just .090 in the first two sets, Wisconsin-Parkside cranked up the offense in sets three and four where it hit a combined .282 to finish off the Tritons.

Missouri-St. Louis, which dropped to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC, was led by Kylie Rudsinski who had 10 kills. Gina Pezze added eight kills and eight digs and Danielle Waedekin finished with a match-high 25 digs. The Tritons were limited to just an .087 attack percentage for the match as the Rangers had 90 digs and nine blocks.

The Rangers used a 10-4 run in the first set to take a 15-8 lead as Mavis sparked the run with a pair of kills.

Wisconsin-Parkside took a 17-12 lead, but the Tritons answered with a 10-3 run to take a 22-20 lead. Following a UWP timeout, the Rangers took advantage of a pair of UMSL attack errors to draw even at 22-22. Another Triton attack error put the Rangers ahead 23-22 and Roembke stretched the lead to 24-22 with a kill. Fittingly enough, the Rangers closed out the first set on a UMSL attack error.

The Tritons held on to the lead in the second set. After UWP trimmed the UMSL lead to 20-19 on three consecutive kills by Davis, the Tritons answered with a 5-1 run to close out the set and tie the match at 1-1.

Wisconsin-Parkside dominated the third set to take a 2-1 lead. The Rangers reeled off an 11-3 run midway through the set to take a comfortable 17-8 lead. Missouri-St. Louis would get no closer than six points of the lead and Leah Fenske finished the set with a kill.

The Rangers continued to roll in the fourth set and jumped out to a 9-4 lead behind two kills from Davis and kills by Mavis, Fenske, Hickson and Turek.

UWP pushed the lead out to 16-9 on a kill by Fenske, but the Tritons rallied to get to within 17-14. But the Rangers had an answer as Davis and Turek recorded kills helping restore the lead to 20-14.

Wisconsin-Parkside got kills from Roembke and Davis and a pair of UMSL errors to close out the set, and the match.

Wisconsin-Parkside reutrns to action on Friday (Sept. 30) when it travels to Indianapolis for a GLVC match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
