Volleyball Tops Maryville

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 23, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad started off their Great Lakes Valley Conference home schedule with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-7, 25-14) win over Maryville University inside the DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Rangers (3-9, 2-1 GLVC) opened up the first set of the match with an 8-2 run, and held the lead until late in the set when the Saints (2-10, 1-2 GLVC) tied things up at 18-18.  UW-Parkside eventually dropped the closely contested set 24-26.  The second set was close as well, with the teams tied 10 different times.  With the set tied at 20-20, the Rangers finished with a 5-0 run, including four straight serves from Annie Leo and two kills from Lexi Turek.

The Green and White carried their point streak over to the third set, and opened with an 11-0 run.  Rebecca Roembke had 11 straight serves to start the set, including two of her four aces in the match.  A combination of great kills from Parkside, and numerous errors by Maryville led to a lopsided 25-7 win for the Rangers.  UW-Parkside rode the momentum into the fourth set, taking an early lead and never giving it up.  Midway through the set, Rebecca Roembke drove down a set from Lauren Hickson giving the Rangers the 11-9 lead.  Roembke then served six straight, adding to the Ranger lead.  Parkside closed out the match with the 25-14 victory.

Lauren Hickson led the team in both assists (45) and digs (12).  Hickson wasn't the only Ranger to finish with a double-double.  Rebecca Roembke had 15 kills and 10 digs, and Kasey Davis had 11 digs and 10 kills.  Lexi Turek finished the match with 13 kills and Leah Fenske had 12.

The Rangers look to add to their two match conference win streak when they host University of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3pm inside the DeSimone Gymnasium.
