SOMERS, Wis. --
Abraham Kanneh and
Antonio Gonzalez each scored goals, but David Cross scored in the 81st minute leading Drury to a 3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday at Wood Road Field.
The Drury victory spoiled a spirited comeback by the Rangers. Wisconsin-Parkside scored a pair of goals late in the second period to take the lead, but the Panthers rallied for two goals in the final 13 minutes of play to gain the win.
Ben Bruce put Drury (6-0-0, 4-0-0 GLVC) on the board at the 16:11 mark of the first period with a goal off an assist from Antoine Vial.Â
The Rangers were held off the scoreboard until the 75th minutes when Gonzalez converted a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1.
Wisconsin-Parkside (2-3-1, 0-3-1 GLVC) took advantage of a fortuitous bounce to take the lead just 47 seconds later. On a centering pass, the ball got past the keeper and hit the post which caused the ball to ricochet onto the waiting foot of Kanneh who drilled the ball into the empty net for a 2-1 UWP lead.
The Panthers wasted little time in getting the equalizer as Antoine Vial scored on a header off a free kick at the 77:23 mark of the second period to knot the score at 2-2.
Cross then put the Panthers ahead to stay when he drilled a free kick into the net at the 81:33 mark giving Drury a 3-2 lead.
The Rangers were not done though and had two outstanding scoring chances in the final 8:27 of the match. At the 88:12 mark, Kanneh hit the crossbar with a header and
Leki Prpa had a good look at goal just 15 seconds later, but Drury keeper Nicholas Helin punched the shot away to preserve the victory.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Setp. 23 when it visits Southern Indiana for a GLVC match at 7:30 p.m.
