Men's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Southern Indiana 3-2

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Burim Husseini and Abraham Kanneh each scored goals, but the Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team lost to Southern Indiana 3-2 on Friday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Strassweg Field.

The Rangers, who dropped to 2-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the GLVC, missed a golden opportunity to tie the match with only 1:11 to play in the match. Trailing 3-2, Wisconsin-Parkside was awarded a penalty kick but Southern Indiana goalie Adam Zehme came up with a save on the attempt by Antonio Gonzalez to preserve the victory for the Eagles.

Husseini netted his first goal of the season, while Kanneh has scored in each of the last two matches for the Rangers.

Husseini staked Wisconsin-Parkside to a 1-0 lead when he scored at the 28:12 mark of the first period. He took a feed from Gonzalez and kissed it off the left post for the goal.

Southern Indiana, which raised its record to 6-1-0 and 4-1-0 in conference play, rallied to score three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Michael Sass tied the match at 1-1 with a header just before halftime and then the Eagles took a 2-1 lead when Kyle Richardville scored at the 60:37 mark of the second period.

USI stretched the lead to 3-2 when Sean Rickey scored in the 65th minute.

Wisconsin-Parkside would rally when Kanneh took a feed from Vic Vera and found the back of the net to cut the lead to 3-2 with over 15 minutes to play. The Rangers got two more shots, including the penalty kick, on net in the final 15 minutes, but could not beat Zehme.

The Rangers return to action on Sunday (Sept. 25) when they visit Bellarmine at 1:30 p.m. in a GLVC match.
