Rangers Drop Five-Set Match to Olivet Nazarene

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Kasey Davis recorded a season-high 18 kills and Lexi Turek added 15 kills, but the Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team dropped a 17-25, 28-26, 23-25, 25-23, 15-11 non-conference decision to Olivet Nazarene on Tuesday in McHie Arena.

The Rangers, who dropped to 1-8 overall on the season, appeared poised to post their second win of the season after rallying to win the third set 25-23 and taking a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers rallied to win the final two sets and secure the victory to improve to 7-4 on the season. Jeslyn Roat led all players with a match-high 24 kills for Olivet Nazarene, while Emma Ross added 15 kills.

The Rangers outhit the Tigers .234 to .156, but committed 11 service errors and Olivet Nazarene posted 11 service aces.

Wisconsin-Parkside also received 52 assists and 22 digs from setter Lauren Hickson and 25 digs from Annie Leo. Davis finished with a double-double as she had 12 digs, and Lexi Calloway added eight kills and 15 digs.

Turek and Elizabeth Mavis led the UWP blocking effort with three blocks each.

Wisconsin-Parkside built a 15-9 lead in the first set only to see the Tigers reel off a 5-0 run to climb to within 15-14. A kill by Calloway and two Olivet Nazarene hitting errors upped the UWP lead to 18-14.

After ONU trimmed the Rangers lead to 20-17, UWP closed the set on a 5-0 run which included a kill and a service ace by Turek and a kill by Hickson to claim the 25-17 win.

ONU used an 8-1 run midway through the second set to take a 19-14 lead. The Rangers responded with a 7-2 run, sparked by three kills from Davis, to tie the set at 21-21.

ONU scored back-to-back points to take a 23-21 lead, but the Rangers got a kill from Katie Adams, a Tiger hitting error and a kill from Calloway to take a 24-23 lead. Following a timeout, ONU scored two straight points to regain the lead but a service error knotted the score at 25-25.

The Tigers claimed the second set by breaking a 26-26 tie with a kill and a service ace by Ross.

Olivet Nazarene built a 19-14 lead in the third set before the Rangers stromed back. Three kills by Turek and two by Adams sparked a 6-1 run, which tied the set at 20-20.

Turek added three more kills and Davis clinched the 25-23 win with a kill giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

UWP jumped out to a 12-8 lead in the fourth set, but the Tigers answered with a 5-1 run to knot the score at 13-13. The remainder of the set was a back-and-forth affair as neither team held more than a two-point lead.

The Tigers broke a 22-22 deadlock with a 3-1 run to win the set and force a fifth, and deciding, set.

UWP held a 9-7 advantage in the fifth set, but ONU ripped off a 6-1 run to take a 13-10 lead.

A kill by Hickson brought the Rangers to within 13-11, but a kill from Roat and a Wisconsin-Parkside attack error ended the set, and the match.

Wisconsin-Parkside opens Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Friday (Sept. 16) when it visits Drury for a 7 p.m. match.
