SOMERS, Wis. (Apr. 7, 2016)-- Inclement weather has stolen another home date from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad as the Rangers will now hit the road to face Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Southern Indiana in a four-game weekend set in Evansville.
Â
The Rangers and Screaming Eagles open the series on Saturday with a twinbill beginning at 12 p.m. and finish the weekend slate on Sunday with another doubleheader starting at noon at the USI Baseball Field. Live stats of all four games will be available.
Â
About the Rangers: UW-Parkside (4-19, 0-8 GLVC) dominated Northland College 9-0 in its home opener last Friday before dropping a four-game set on the road to GLVC East rival Saint Joseph's College, including a pair of games by a combined three runs.
Â
Dylan Tye was firing on all cylinders against the Lumberjacks in the home opener at Augie Schmidt Field, striking out nine and allowing just three hits in the shutout win.
Â
On Saturday's series opener against St. Joe's, the Rangers outhit the hosts by a 14-11 margin and piled on 10 runs in the final two innings but it was not enough to overcome the team's initial deficit, falling 13-10 while game two was suspended due to snow.
Â
On Sunday, three errors allowed seven Puma runs to score in the bottom of the sixth as the hosts took the game by a 7-0 count before SJC scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch in extra innings to snag a 7-6 win in game two.
Â
The two sides closed the series on Monday with consecutive hits plating two in the bottom of the seventh as Saint Joseph's emerged with the 2-0 win and the series sweep.
Â
Kyohei Makita leads the Rangers at the plate, safely reaching base in each of the last 10 games while sporting a team-best .390 batting average and a .440 on-base percentage. The Tokyo, Japan, native has six extra base hits, 10 RBIs, while leading the team by scoring 16 runs during the 2016 campaign.
Zach Thompson owns a .308 average with seven RBIs. The redshirt junior has been a menace for opposing defense's on the basepaths with a team-high 10 stolen bases while

Josh Serio has 38 strikeouts in 29 innings of work while
Mario Samuel owns 23 punchouts in his seven appearances on the hill.
Â
About the Screaming Eagles: Southern Indiana (16-11, 5-3 GLVC) heads to Wisconsin after dropping a midweek tilt 8-1 to the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. In that game, the visiting Eagles surrendered six runs in a two-inning stretch as the host Tritons grabbed an early 6-0 lead and never looked back.
Â
Prior to the UMSL game, Southern Indiana secured a weekend split with the University of Illinois Springfield. The host Eagles were thwarted 9-8 and 5-1 on Saturday to open the series before pounding the Prairie Stars on Sunday, collecting 9-1 and 14-1 victories to salvage the split.

Â
On Wisconsin: UW-Parkside's 9-0 win over in-state foe Northland College on April 1 continued the program's dominance against the rest of the Badger State. Since 2011, the Rangers are 5-1 against in-state opponents with the lone setback coming in 2014 at the hands of Division I University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During the six year stretch, the Green and White have collected victories over Northland, Cardinal Stritch University, Carroll University, and Edgewood College.
Â
Tour de Kenosha: UW-Parkside is no stranger to the artificial turf of Augie Schmidt Field having logged nine games at the home of the Carthage College Red Men over the past three seasons. In fact, of the 28 home games played over the last three seasons, only 17 were contested on campus at Oberbruner Field with nine at Carthage (including six last season) along with a pair of contests at Simmons Field, home of the Northwoods League's Kenosha Kingfish.
Â
Streaks: Jake Kolasinski opened the 2016 season with an eight-game hitting streak, an accomplishment that has since surpassed by
Kyohei Makita who tallied a nine-game streak and has currently reached base safely in 10 consecutive contests. Makita additionally leads the team in multiple hit games with 10 in 2016 while Kolasinski and
Zach Thompson have collected eight and six multi-hit performances this season.
Â
GLVC Reshuffle: 2016 will have a slightly different look to GLVC play with interdivisional games eliminated from the league calendar. Teams will now play seven four-game sets against the rest of their division with the top four teams from each division meeting for the GLVC Tournament from May 12th to 15th in Westview, Indiana.Â
Â
Out of the (North)Woods: Last summer four Rangers appeared in the Northwoods League, one of the top collegiate summer leagues in the nation.
Josh Serio was a league All-Star playing for the eventual champion Kenosha Kingfish while fellow pitcher
Mario Samuel also spent time with the local squad.
Tyler Jandron spent some time with the Wausau-based Wisconsin Woodchucks with
Jake Kolasinski opening the season with the Lakeshore Chinooks based out of Mequon, Wisconsin. For 2016, Serio resigned with the defending champion Kingfish.
Â
Coos Bay Connection: Head Coach
Daniel Esposito spent four seasons as the head coach at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay and his stint with the Lakers continues to pay dividends with three student-athletes and one assistant coach having spent time with the SWOCC baseball program. Montana natives
Riley Phillips and
Cody Rolshoven along with Tokyo native
Kyohei Makita all spent time with SWOCC prior to donning the Green and White along with assistant coach
Gonzalo Gonzalez Jr. who was a player under Esposito at both SWOCC and Pittsburg State University in Kansas.
