EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Apr. 10, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday to host and Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Southern Indiana, succumbing 13-0 in the opener before having a late advantage slip away in a 10-8 setback in game two at the USI Baseball Field.

A pair of big innings ultimately sabotaged the Rangers (5-22, 1-11 GLVC) in the opener, allowing four runs in the fourth inning and six more in the top of the seventh in the 13-0 setback.

Troy Bittenbender led the Rangers at the plate, finishing two-for-three.

Tyler Jandron was saddled with the loss, pitching the opening 5 1/3 innings and striking out eight while allowing six earned runs. The Screaming Eagles' (19-12, 8-4 GLVC) Devin Williams tallied the complete game shutout, striking out nine and allowing just four hits.

In game two, Southern Indiana scored two runs in the top of the second and two more in the fourth inning. The Eagles' edge swelled to 7-0 in the fifth with a three-run outburst before the Rangers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, manufacturing three runs to close within four.

Zach Thompson single brought in Bittenbender for Parkside's first run of the afternoon before a
DJ Peltz single scored both Thompson and
Kyohei Makita.

UW-Parkside seized its first lead of the afternoon in the eighth inning, piling on five runs for the 8-7 edge. A Peltz double followed by two walks loaded the bases before
Jake Kolasinski absorbed a pitch with his body to earn a free pass to first and bring in Peltz. A
Kyle Schulz single brought in a pair of runs before a Bittenbender single tied the game at seven.
Zach Thompson hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning, scoring Schultz to take the one run lead.

USI answered in the ninth, plating three runs to reclaim the lead. UW-Parkside had the potential winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth but a strikeout prematurely ended the game for the Rangers as Southern Indiana secured the sweep.

Makita was three-for-five at the plate while Bittenbender and Peltz both tallied a pair of hits.

Cody Rolshoven was hit with the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings and striking out two.
Dylan Tye pitched the opening 4 1/3 innings, striking out four and allowing four earned runs while
Matt Skarzynski allowed just one hit in 1 2/3 innings of work. USI's T.J. Decker claimed the win, allowing two runs in one inning of labor while Nick Coudret tallied the save, striking out two in the ninth.

UW-Parkside returns to the diamond on Saturday, opening a four-game set at Oberbruner Field against GLVC rival University of Indianapolis.
