(Mar. 23, 2016)-- Seven hits yielded just one run for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team on Wednesday evening, falling 12-1 to 19th-ranked Missouri Southern State University at Turner Field to close out the Rangers' weeklong tour of the Show Me State.
Â
The nationally-ranked and host Lions (18-5) pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before adding single runs in each of the next two innings, staking an early 4-0 lead.
Â
The Rangers (3-11) led off the fourth with a outfield single from
Zach Cunningham. Cunningham mobilized to third on a
DJ Peltz double down the left field line before scoring on a
Bobby Neylon groundout, cutting the gap to 4-1. UW-Parkside had the tying run at the plate with Peltz and
Zach Thompson both in scoring position before a strikeout cut the rally short.
Â
Missouri Southern padded its lead with a four-run outburst in both the fifth and sixth innings to record the 12-1 win.
Â
Cunningham and
Jake Kolasinski led the Rangers at the plate, both finishing two-for-three.
Â
Josh Serio suffered the loss, striking out three in two innings of action while Kyle McCulloch earned the win, lasting four innings and fanning four.
Â
The Rangers are back on the diamond on Friday, opening Great Lakes Valley Conference action with a twinbill against nemesis Lewis University. First pitch in Romeoville, Illinois is slated for 12 p.m.
