JOPLIN, Mo. (Mar. 21, 2016)-- A rocky start torpedoed the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad's chances of an upset against the nation's 19th-ranked squad on Monday night, suffering a 16-3 setback to host Missouri Southern State University at Turner Field.

The Rangers (3-9) opened the game by pushing a cross a pair of runs in the top of the first inning before the 19th-ranked Lions (16-5) responded with a deluge of runs in the bottom of the frame, pushing across 13 to seize the lead.

Three walks surrounded by a fielding error allowed visiting UW-Parkside to plate Zach Thompson to open the scoring in the first before Jake Kolasinski made it 2-0 after touching home plate on a wild pitch.

MSSU tacked on single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings while a Kyohei Makita solo home run in the fifth inning closed the scoring in the seven inning non-conference tilt.

Nick Janssen ended the night with two of the Rangers' four hits, finishing two-for-two at the plate while also drawing a walk.

Connor Cunningham took the loss on the mound while his counterpart Sean Goostree netted the win, tossing four frames and striking out six. UW-Parkside's Dylan Tye closed the game with two innings of scoreless relief, allowing no hits while striking out two in the fifth and sixth innings.
