(Mar. 22, 2016)-- A lethargic start derailed the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team on Tuesday evening, falling 13-2 to non-conference foe Rockhurst University in a neutral site showdown at the Johnson County Community College Baseball Complex.

The Hawks (9-12) opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second inning before plating five more in the third. Rockhurst ballooned its lead to 13-0 in the fifth, pushing across five more scores. The Rangers (3-10) got on the board in the seventh, scoring a pair of runs but it was not enough as Rockhurst leveled the season series at two games apiece.

Zach Thompson led off the seventh with a double to left field, later scoring after
Ryan Fischer ripped a double down the left field line. A
Jacob Pagan single advanced Fischer to third before scoring on a
Nick Janssen sacrifice fly.

John Dokolas suffered the loss, handling the opening two innings and striking out two.
Joseph Plaud and
Kyle Schulz tossed a combined 3 2/3 innings of relief, combining for six strikeouts while RU's Thomas Cargile notched the win with five strikeouts and no runs in four innings of labor.

UW-Parkside closes out its spring break trip tomorrow afternoon, squaring off against 19th-ranked Missouri Southern State University at 5 p.m.
