LIBERTY, Mo. (Mar. 20, 2016)-- A late rally was not enough for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad on Sunday afternoon. Stumbling 4-3 to host William Jewell College in the series finale inside Talley Stadium.

The host Cardinals (13-6) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, pushing across a single score. The Rangers (3-8) tied the contest in the third inning with a Troy Bittenbender groundout scoring Zach Cunningham. Jewell reclaimed the lead in the fourth with a single run before padding its edge with two more in the seventh.

Parkside pushed across a pair of scores in the eighth inning and had the winning run on first base in the ninth before a flyout bailed out the Cardinals who emerged with the series sweep.

Zach Thompson opened the scoring in the eighth for the Rangers, bringing in Bryan Wade on a single to left field before Kyohei Makita drove in Bittenbender to close within a single run. Parkside had runners on first and second before a lineout stymied the rally in the eighth.

Thompson and Neylon led the Rangers at the plate, both finishing two-for-four at the plate.

Nate Stolte suffered the loss on the mound, striking out five in six innings of action while Dylan Pollock earned the win for WJC, handling the opening 7 1/3 innings and striking out four. Chris Muncha tackled the final inning for the Cardinals, striking out two and procuring the save.

UW-Parkside continues its tour of the Show Me State tomorrow night, facing Missouri Southern State University at 6 p.m.
