SOMERS, Wis. --
Asiah Lawson scored a game-high 11 points and Wisconsin-Parkside registered its first victory of the season with a convincing 83-39 non-conference victory over Trinity Christian on Thursday in DeSimone Gymnasium.
Lawson led the Rangers with 11 points, while
Georgie Eishold scored 10 points off the bench.
Olivia Montague and
Brittney Fair each scored eight points, while
Hayley Maystead added six points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which snapped a seven-game losing streak with the victory, shot 45.6 percent from the floor while limiting Trinity Christian to 23.1 percent shooting for the game. The Rangers shot 52.2 percent from the floor over the final three quarters after shooting 31.8 percent in the first quarter.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 1-7 on the season, had just 13 turnovers for the game. The Rangers dominated the interior as they outscored the Trolls 32-14 in the paint and the UWP bench outscored the Trinity Christian bench 51-23. All 14 players that saw action for Wisconsin-Parkside scored in the game.
Trinity Christian, which played the contest as an exhibition game, led the Rangers 12-9 with 2:40 to play in the opening quarter.
Wisconsin-Parkside took the lead for good by closing the quarter on a 6-0 run, which included baskets by Clarisa Martinez,
Lauren Boerger and
Taylor Stephen.
The Rangers dominated the second quarter as they outscored Trinity Christian 29-10 to take a commanding lead.
Two free throws by Boerger and a layup by Stephen gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 19-12 lead with 8:52 to play before halftime.
A layup by Bethany Jansma closed the lead to 19-14, but the Rangers responded with a 14-4 run that increased the UWP lead to 36-18 at the 2:20 mark of the second quarter.
Eishold began the Ranger run with a three-pointer and
Carolina Rahkonen followed with two free throws to up the lead to 24-14 with 6:49 remaining in the second.
Celina Wanta scored inside for the Trolls, but Lawson drilled a three-pointer and added a jumper to push the Ranger lead to 29-16 at the 4:03 mark.
Two free throws by
Blair Arthur increased the margin to 15 points before Regan Cross hit a short jumper to trim the lead to 31-18 with 3:00 remaining until halftime.
Lawson answered with another three-pointer and Maystead capped the run with a layup that gave the Rangers a 36-18 lead.
Wisconsin-Parkside then closed the half on an 8-2 run, which featured three points from Fair, to take a 44-22 lead into the intermission.
The Rangers outscored the Trolls 21-9 in the third quarter and built as much as a 36-point lead late in the quarter.
Wisconsin-Parkside led by 44 points on two occasions, which marked the Rangers largest lead of the game.
Rebecca Moura drilled a three-pointer with 4:31 to play in the fourth quarter giving the Rangers a 79-35 lead, and
Maycee Kroening scored inside with 1:13 to play giving UWP an 83-39 lead.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Sunday (Dec. 11) when it visits Lewis for a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at 1 p.m.
