Wisconsin-Parkside Toppled by #18 Lewis

SOMERS, Wis. -- Senior Rebecca Roembke recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 18 digs, but 18th-ranked Lewis rallied to defeat Wisconsin-Parkside 22-25, 26-24, 27-25, 25-20 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match on Tuesday in DeSimone Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Wisconsin-Parkside to 8-8 in GLVC play and 12-17 overall for the season. The Rangers are currently tied with Bellarmine for fourth place in the GLVC East standings, one full game behind Indianapolis. Wisconsin-Parkside will close the regular season with home matches against Saint Joseph's on Nov. 11 and Indianapolis on Nov. 12.

Roembke led four players in double figures in kills with 11 as Lexi Turek, Elizabeth Mavis and Katie Adams all notched 10 kills for the Rangers. Adams and Lauren Hickson also had double-doubles for Wisconsin-Parkside as Adams had 10 kills and 12 digs, while Hickson finished with 13 digs and 43 assists.

Lewis, which improved to 22-6 overall and 15-1 in conference play, was led by Aly Schneider who had 21 kills and posted a .556 attack percentage. Elizabeth Hyland added 16 kills for the Flyers, while Maddie Seliga had 13 kills and 16 digs.

Lewis held an early 8-6 lead in the opening set before the Rangers stormed back with a 5-1 run. A kill and a service ace by Turek and a pair of kills from Roembke gave the Rangers an 11-9 lead.

The Rangers took leads of 13-11 and 14-12, but Lewis rallied to tie the set at 14-14. The Rangers took the lead for good on a Lewis service error and a kill from Turek to take a 16-14 lead.

After Lewis trimmed the lead to 19-18, the Rangers responded with a kill from Mavis and a kill and a service ace by Roembke to up the lead to 22-18. Turek closed out the first set for Wisconsin-Parkside with a kill for a 25-22 victory.

Wisconsin-Parkside appeared on its way to a 2-0 run after ripping off a 5-0 run midway through the second set to take a 17-13 lead.

Following a timeout, Lewis responded with a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 18-17. A kill from Kasey Davis and a block from Adams and Mavis helped the Rangers push the lead to 22-19.

Lewis regained the lead on the strength of a 5-0 run that gave the Flyers a 24-22 lead. UWP bounced back with a kill from Adams and a Lewis attack error to knot the set at 24-24, but the Flyers captured the second set following two UW-Parkside attack errors.

Lewis held a 9-6 lead in the third set before the Rangers used a 4-0 run to take a 10-9 lead. Turek and Hickson fueled the run as each recorded a kill.

Wisconsin-Parkside used kills by Davis and Adams to take a 15-13 lead, but Lewis scored two straight points to tie the score at 15-15. Neither team held more than a two-point lead until the Flyers closed out the set with kills by Hyland and Seliga.

Wisconsin-Parkside held a 20-19 lead in the fourth set, but Lewis closed out the set and the match with a 6-0 run to claim the victory.

The Rangers return to action on Friday (Nov. 11) when they host Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
