BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- Senior
Alexander Brown tallied 19 of his career-high 23 points in the second half and Wisconsin-Parkside overcame a three-point halftime deficit to defeat Ferris State 85-75 on Saturday in Jim Wink Arena to run its winning streak to four straight games.
Brown, who also scored 23 points last season against Silver Lake, was 7-of-9 from the floor in the second half and made all three of his three-point attempts to lead the Rangers comeback.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 4-1 on the season, shot 61.3 percent from the floor in the second half in outscoring the Bulldogs 55-42 in the second period.
Junior
Kendale McCullum scored 11 of his 17 points in the second period. He also added six assists, five rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots.
Adam Bonk delivered 14 points off the bench for the Rangers, while
Goran Zagorac finished with 10 points.
Kyle Flanagan added four points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Ferris State, which defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 84-58 last season in DeSimone Gymnasium, was led by Zach Hankins who scored 20 points. Peter Firlik added 17 points and Drew Cushingberry finished with 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Wisconsin-Parkside shot just 37.5 percent from the floor in the first half, but still held a 19-15 lead in the first half at the 8:24 mark following a layup by McCullum.
The Bulldogs answered with a 9-0 run to take a 24-19 lead with 5:07 remaining in the first half. Ferris State held as much as a six-point lead in the first half before the Rangers closed the half on a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 33-30 at the break.
Ferris State opened the second half with back-to-back baskets to take its largest lead of the game at 37-30 with 18:55 to play in the game.
Wisconsin-Parkside used a 6-0 run to trim the lead to 37-36, but Ferris State stretched the lead back to 40-36 with 16:31 left in the second period.
The Rangers took the lead for good on a free throw by
Linwood Lee with 12:14 to play, and Brown capped a 7-0 run with a three-pointer that gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 55-48 lead with 11:19 remaining in the game.
Wisconsin-Parkside used an 11-2 run late in the second period to pull away from the Bulldogs. Leading 60-56, Bonk drained a three-pointer to up the lead to 63-56 with 6:12 remaining in the game.
Mory Diane connected on a jumper for Ferris State to cut the lead to 63-58, but Brown drilled a three-pointer and converted a layup and Bonk added another three-pointer to up the Rangers lead to 71-58 with 4:15 to play.
The Bulldogs climbed to within 81-73 with 43 seconds remaining, but McCullum made four free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Wisconsin-Parkside will open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday (Dec. 1) against Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
