ST. LOUIS --
Reyes Perez scored his first goal of the season, but Missouri-St. Louis rallied to defeat Wisconsin-Parkside 2-1 on Sunday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Don Dallas Field.
Perez gave the Rangers the lead in the 63rd minute after a scoreless first period. He took a pass from
Vic Vera and drilled the ball between the legs of UMSL keeper Jack Filla from six yards out giving UWP a 1-0 lead.
The goal by Perez ignited a flurry of action as the Tritons quickly responded to take the lead.
Missouri-St. Louis, which improved to 8-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in conference, tied the match just 2:01 later when DJ Bednar scored from the right wing on a pass from Pim Boonstra.
The Tritons then took the lead for good when Boonstra scored 45 seconds later off a feed from Bednar and one-timed the shot past
Nate Kitchell giving UMSL a 2-1 advantage.
The Rangers, who dropped to 5-6-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the GLVC, pushed hard over the final 23 minutes and fired four shots on goal but could not beat Filla.
Burim Husseini led the Rangers with four shots, while
Stevi Krecak finished with three shots and Perez had two shots. Kitchell made five saves in goal for the Rangers, but dropped to 4-2 on the season with the loss.
The top eight teams qualify for the GLVC Tournament and Maryville currently occupies the eighth spot with a 4-5 conference record.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Friday (Oct. 14) when it hosts Truman State in a GLVC match scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at Wood Road Field.
