Rangers Fall in Battle with 13th-Ranked Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Kasey Davis and Rebecca Roembke each recorded double-doubles, but the Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team lost to 13th-ranked Lewis 25-20, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21 on Tuesday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match in Neil Carey Arena.

Davis finished with a team-high 14 kills and also had 10 digs to post her fifth double-double of the season, while Roembke added 10 kills and 11 digs for her team-leading eighth double-double of the year. Lexi Turek also reached double figures in kills for the Rangers as she finished with 11, while Leah Fenske added eight kills, five digs and two blocks.

Wisconsin-Parkside also got a team-high 17 digs from libero Annie Leo and setter Lauren Hickson finished with 39 assists, eight digs and three kills.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which saw its two-match winning streak come to an end, dropped to 6-11 overall and 4-3 in the GLVC. Lewis remained undefeated in conference play as the Flyers improved to 7-0 in the GLVC and 13-3 on the season.

Lewis, which hit .294 for the match, was led by Alexandra Preuss who had 14 kills and Aly Schneider who added 13 kills.

Wisconsin-Parkside jumped out to an 11-7 lead in the opening set before the Flyers responded with a 9-1 lead to take a 16-11 advantage. A kill by Davis and a service ace by Leo brought UW-Parkside to within 16-13, but Lewis answered with back-to-back kills by Preuss to increase the lead to 18-13.

Lewis closed out the first set on a kill by Preuss and a Ranger service error.

The Rangers used kills by Elizabeth Mavis, Fenske and Davis to take an early 7-4 lead in the second set. After Lewis closed to within 10-9, the Rangers reeled off kills by Davis, Fenske and Roembke to stretch the margin to 13-9.

The Flyers rallied to take the lead and held a 20-19 lead before the Rangers took the lead for good. Davis drew UWP even and a Lewis ball handling error put the Rangers in front at 21-20.

A Lewis attacking error and a kill by Roembke pushed the lead to 23-20 and the Rangers closed the set with kills by Roembke and Davis to even the match at 1-1.

Lewis raced out to a 10-5 lead in the third set before Wisconsin-Parkside rallied to within 11-10. The Flyers then closed the set on a 14-4 run to take a 25-14 win and a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Lewis jumped out to a 10-6 lead, but the Rangers rallied to within 14-11 on a Flyer attack error. A kill by Turek brought UWP to within 15-12, but that would be as close as the Rangers would get for the remainder of the set.

Schneider finished the set, and the match, with a kill for Lewis.

Wisconsin-Parkside will play the middle match of its three-match roadtrip when it visits Southern Indiana on Friday (Oct. 7) at 7 p.m.
