Rangers Blank McKendree in GLVC Play

SOMERS, Wis. -- Vianey Hernandez, Lauren Bialas and Brooke Munroe all scored goals and Adrianna Bratel posted a shutout leading the Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting McKendree on Sunday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Wood Road Field.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which has won five of its last seven matches, halted a two-match losing streak with a dominant performance against the Bearcats.

The Rangers, who improved to 5-4-1 overall and 5-3 in conference play, outshot McKendree 20-5 and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. McKendree dropped to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in league play with the loss.

Hernandez got the Rangers on the board early in the first period. Wisconsin-Parkside crossed a ball into the box and it hit off a Bearcat defender and Hernandez picked up the loose ball and tapped it into the open cage giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead just 4:23 into the match.

Bialas extended the lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute. She took a feed from Jillian Hetfleisch and lofted it over the head of Bearcat keeper Zoe Brochu for her second goal of the season.

Munroe tallied the Rangers final goal when she took a deflection and beat Brochu to up the margin to 3-0 in the 66th minute.

Bratel turned aside two shots in her 90 minutes of action and improved to 2-2-1 on the season.

The Rangers wore pink uniforms on Sunday in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns to the pitch when it visits Maryville on Friday (Oct. 7) at 3:30 p.m. in a GLVC match.
