Vianey Hernandez and
Jillian Hetfleisch each scored goals leading the Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team to a 3-1 road victory over Maryville in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match on Friday at Maryville Field.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 6-4-1 overall and 6-3 in conference play, won for the second straight time and the sixth time in the last eight outings.
Porter got the Rangers started as she scored in the 16th minute. Porter, who leads the team with four goals, took a feed from Hetfleisch and scored from six yards out giving Wisconsin-Parkside a 1-0 lead.
Hernandez, who has scored in back-to-back matches, pushed the Wisconsin-Parkside lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute. She picked up a rebound and beat Maryville keeper Alison Riddle from five yards out for her second goal of the season.
Maryville, which dropped to 4-7 overall and 3-6 in conference, rallied back into the match. The Saints scored in the 57th minute on a goal by Montana Krause to cut the lead in half at 2-1.
The Saints pushed up in the final 10 minutes to challenge the Rangers. Allison Verville hit the post in the 84th minute and UWP keeper
Adrianna Bratel made three saves down the stretch to hold off Maryville.
Hetfleisch put the match away for the Rangers when she scored in the 88th minute. She scored her third goal of the season when she took a feed from
Jazmin Castanon and found the back of the net from 10 yards out.
Bratel made six saves in total and improved to 3-2-1 on the season with the victory.
Wisconsin-Parkside will return to action on Sunday (Oct. 9) when it visits Missouri-St. Louis for a GLVC match at 12 p.m.
