Rangers Top Saint Joe's and Kentucky State

RENSSELAER, Ind. -- Kasey Davis recorded 24 kills and 17 digs leading the Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team to victories over Saint Joseph's and Kentucky State on Saturday at Scharf Alumni Gymnasium.

Davis had 12 kills and eight digs as the Rangers defeated Saint Joseph's 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match to open the day and she added 12 kills and nine digs as UWP defeated Kentucky State 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 in a non-conference match.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 6-10 overall and 4-2 in the GLVC, needed a bounce-back performance following a tough five-set loss to Indianapolis on Friday. The Rangers got exactly that as they rallied from six points down in the fourth set to finish off the Pumas.

After earning a 25-19 win in the third set to take a 2-1 lead against Saint Joseph's, the Rangers found themselves trailing 17-11 in the fourth set.

A kill from Lexi Turek ignited a 10-3 Rangers run that put them in front 21-20. Turek and Rebecca Roembke each had two kills during the run and Davis also had a kill for the Rangers.

The Pumas scored two straight points to regain the lead at 22-21, but Lauren Hickson provided a key kill following a long rally that tied the set at 22-22. The Rangers took advantage of two Puma errors to take a 24-22 lead and Katie Adams closed the set with a kill giving UWP a 25-22 victory and securing the win.

Roembke led Wisconsin-Parkside with 14 kills, while Turek finished with 12 kills, seven digs and six blocks. Hickson had a superb all-around match as she had 39 assists, nine digs, five kills, three blocks and two service aces.

Freshman Annie Leo led the Rangers defensive effort as she posted a team-high 10 digs.

Wisconsin-Parkside hit .296 for the match and also outblocked the Pumas 9-3.

The Rangers then completed their day with the sweep of the Thorobreds as Davis had 12 kills and Turek, Elizabeth Mavis and Roembke each finished with seven kills, while Lexi Calloway added six kills.

Turek posted another strong blocking performance as she finished with a match-high six blocks including one solo block.

Adams had 29 assists in directing the Ranger offense and also had five digs and three kills.

Wisconsin-Parkside hit .302 against Kentucky State and limited the Thorobreds to just an .087 attack percentage.

The Rangers return to GLVC play on Tuesday (Oct. 4) when it visits Lewis for a 7 p.m. match.
