KENOSHA, Wis. (Apr. 29, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad ran roughshod through its second non-conference opponent in as many days on Wednesday evening, defeating Saint Xavier University 6-1 at historic Simmons Field.

The host Rangers (13-24) drew first blood, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Savvy baserunning by Troy Bittenbender accounted for the game's first run, advancing from first to home on a Cougar fielding miscue while a DJ Peltz groundout scored Ryan Ruediger for a 2-0 edge.

UW-Parkside capitalized on two errors in the fifth, scratching across three runs to take a 5-0 lead with Darius Hampton and Jake Kolasinski both driving in runs while Patrick Cottrell drove in the Rangers' sixth run of the game in the seventh inning, giving the hosts a 6-0 buffer.

The Cougars (13-28) disrupted the shutout in the eighth inning with an RBI groundout but was unable to inflict any more damage as the Rangers cruised to their second straight non-league victory.

Ruediger paced Parkside at the plate, finishing two-for-four while scoring two runs.

The Ranger pitching staff tallied 11 strikeouts on the night with Joseph Plaud collecting the win, allowing three hits and fanning six in four innings of work. Matt Skarzynski Josh Serio, Mario Samuel, John Dokolas, and Dylan Tye all made brief appearances on the bump while John Perez was the seventh pitcher to see action, entering as a pinch hitter and ranging the outfield in the top of the ninth inning. SXU's Jack Surane absorbed the setback, pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs.

The Rangers return to the diamond on Friday evening, hosting Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival Saint Joseph's College in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at Carthage College's Augie Schmidt Field.
